    National Music Awards 2078 by Radio Kantipur.

    Radio Kantipur hosted the National Music Awards (NMW) 2078 on Friday at Hotel Yak and Yeti, after a two-year break. Ram Krishna Dhakal, Yam Baral, and Lochan Bhattarai performed at the prize ceremony. This year’s edition of the music award received 75 nominations, including 15 prize categories and a lifetime achievement award.

    Ankit Amur Shrestha won the New Singer Award for his song ‘Lazayera’. Also, Ananda Adhikari earned Best Lyricist for ‘Maya Jadau’. Meanwhile, Arjun Pokhrel won Best Music Director for ‘Timro Ghrako Woripori’. Moreover, Pashupatinath Sharma took Best Male Folk Singer for ‘Hajuraile Ho’. Similarly, Mechu Dhimal claimed Best Female Folk Singer for ‘Fasayo Mitho Bolile’. Clearly, these artists impressed audiences with heartfelt performances that highlight Nepalese folk music traditions.

    Next, Umesh Lamsal’s ‘Kohi Bhanchhan Mechi Mero’ won Best National Song. Furthermore, Ram Krishna Dhakal won Best Male Playback Singer for ‘Maya Jadau’. Milan Amatya also earned Best Female Playback Singer for ‘Charile Kafal’. The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Kumar Basnet for his decades-long music contributions. His influence continues to inspire many new artists today.

    In pop categories, Almoda Rana Upreti won Best Male Pop Singer for ‘Kahile Vetne’. Meanwhile, Aastha Tamang Maskey took Best Female Pop Singer for ‘Saregamapa’. Karma Band won Best Band for their song ‘Manko Ghanti’. Additionally, Shiva Pariyar won Best Male Adhunik Singer for ‘Atalinchha Mann’. Sangita Rana Pradhan earned Best Female Adhunik Singer for ‘Maya K Ko Tirsana’. Melina Rai and Bal Bahadur Rajbanshi won Best Duet Song for ‘Jel Pani Sahula’. Finally, Nishan Bhattarai and Eleena Chauhan received the People’s Choice Award for ‘K Maya Lagcha Ra’.

    Kumar Basnet, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award, has spent seven decades researching, collecting, and featuring various music traditions from all over the country, as well as lending his voice to thousands of songs.

    Trishala Gurung, Subani Moktan, Samriddhi Rai, Pashupati Sharma, Dinesh Dhakal, Dharmendra Sewan, and Abhaya Subba also gave performances at the prize ceremony.
